In 1990, vos Savant sparked one of the fiercest debates in probability theory with her response to a reader’s query about the Monty Hall problem, a famous puzzle based on a game show scenario. The problem posits a situation in which a contestant chooses one of three doors, under one of which is a car (the prize), while goats hide behind the other two. After the contestant picks, the host, who knows where the prize is, opens another door to reveal a goat. The contestant is then given the option to stick with their initial choice or switch to the remaining unopened door.
