In a surprising turn of events, rebels recently released thousands of prisoners during their advance toward Damascus. This rapid liberation has instilled a sense of amazement among those whose relatives had lingered in the shadows of the prison's empty cells for years.
Yet, the release of a mere fraction of prisoners isn't perceived as the end of their woes. Many families remain convinced that others are still ensnared in an underground network of cells beneath the prison itself. The Syrian Civil Defense group, known as The White Helmets, has joined the ongoing efforts to locate these hidden detainees.
