In the aftermath of the insurrection, there was a near-universal condemnation from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers. The rhetoric used by various members of Congress during that period highlighted the abhorrence of the violence that transpired and the importance of upholding democracy. Yet, Trump's possible pardons seem to contradict this earlier bi-partisan denunciation of the insurrectionists' actions, creating a fracture within the Republican Party itself.
