With these escalating sightings, several officials, including retired Admiral John Kirby, the National Security Communications Advisor, have weighed in on the situation. Kirby explained that, to date, the government has examined approximately 5,000 drone sightings, and he emphasized that the majority of these are likely lawful activities carried out by commercial, hobbyist, or law enforcement entities. Drones, both manned and unmanned, are flying legally within non-restricted airspace, as long as they are registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In fact, there are over a million drones registered in the United States.
