The team conducted a geochemical analysis of the soil in the region, discovering elevated levels of iridium, a rare metal typically associated with meteorite impacts. This finding proposes that the crater was possibly left by an iron meteorite. Yet, the conclusions drawn so far are not definitive. David King from Auburn University emphasized the need for further evidence, particularly superheated rocks that would have melted upon impact, to firmly classify the structure as a meteorite crater.
