The Concept of the Millennium
Another critical area of contention is the notion of a thousand-year reign of Christ on Earth. Notably, the early church condemned this idea as a heretical interpretation of Scripture during the second ecumenical council in 381 AD. The argument exists that there’s no direct mention of such a reign in the Old Testament, with Revelation 20 being the only verse to reference a “thousand years,” which likely pertains to the ongoing reign of Christ in the spiritual sense.
