The first chakra, mUlAdhAra, also known as the root chakra, is located at the base of the spine. This area is positioned between the genital organ and the anal outlet, commonly referred to as the perineum. The term "mUlAdhAra" combines two Sanskrit words: "moola," meaning source, and "AdhAra," meaning support.
This grounding chakra is viewed as the most rigid and is associated with the earth element, representing survival instincts and foundational needs such as security and shelter. The root chakra is also where the dormant kundalini energy resides, a crucial energy believed to awaken spiritual awareness.
