The tests included simple obstruction detections, fog penetration, and real-time agility while making evasive maneuvers—all while maintaining a speed of 40 miles per hour.
In a dramatic car test featuring a mannequin simulating a child’s emergence from behind parked cars, the LiDAR technology not only detected the obstacle with ample response time but consistently outperformed the Tesla's camera, which struggled in conditions of visibility and stopped only at the last moment. Various rounds of head-to-head challenges showcased how each system reacted to common driving hazards in different environments.
