Part 4/7:
Google Settles Tax Evasion Case in Italy
In another major tech development, Google has agreed to pay $340 million to Italy to settle a tax evasion investigation. Italian authorities accused Google Ireland of failing to declare and pay taxes on income generated in Italy between 2015 and 2019. The investigation particularly focused on revenues from advertising sales.
This settlement is part of broader efforts by the European Union to increase tax revenue from technology giants operating across Europe. Many of these companies have faced scrutiny for shifting profits to countries with lower tax rates, such as Ireland and Luxembourg, which has made enforcing tax compliance a complex issue.
