Part 2/6:
For the past four months, the Reef Pulse team has been actively engaged in monitoring coral reefs off the coast of St. Lou on the island of Lon. They have strategically deployed eight hydrophones at a depth of 12 meters. These underwater microphones are designed to continuously capture sound data from the marine environment, providing researchers with vital insights into the health of coral reefs.
This innovative method allows for less intrusive monitoring compared to traditional methods, enabling marine scientists to gather data without disrupting the delicate ecosystems they are studying. By analyzing the sounds of the reef, such as those emitted by marine life, the team can infer information about biodiversity, inhabitant behavior, and overall reef health.
