The researchers involved scrutinized 319 knowledge workers to evaluate how their discretionary use of AI influenced their critical thinking skills. Their findings were alarming; the more these workers depended on AI, the less they engaged in critical thinking. Instead of actively engaging in problem-solving processes, many began to transition into roles of oversight—monitoring and checking the work produced by AI rather than cultivating their own analytical capabilities.
