Lockie Ferguson, a veteran of 65 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a participant in two World Cups where New Zealand reached the semi-finals, sustained his injury during the DP World IL T20 tournament in the UAE earlier this month. Despite his attempts to test his fitness by playing three overs in a warm-up match against Afghanistan, Ferguson was unable to recover adequately and has since been replaced in the squad by Kyle Jamieson.
