During a recent emergency session at the United Nations General Assembly, the U.S. and Russia aligned their positions, marking a departure from prior U.S. actions that consistently favored Ukraine. The morning vote at the General Assembly, followed by an afternoon vote in the Security Council, showcased this unusual partnership. Despite its previous strong condemnations of Russia’s aggression, the U.S. refrained from supporting its own draft resolution, which had aimed to rally international condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
