The simmerstat operates based on a principle known as duty cycle control. In simpler terms, this means regulating the amount of time the heating element is powered on versus off within a set period. For instance, if the heating element is designed to output 1200 watts but only 600 watts are needed for the cooking task, the simmerstat can alternate the heating element on and off over a certain duration to achieve this reduced power level.
