Reports indicate that approximately one million species are currently at risk of extinction, with insects being the most affected group. Historical data reveals a staggering decline, where about 40% of insect species could be gone within a few decades due to human activities like mass agriculture. Between 1970 and 2018, the Living Planet Index indicated an average decline of 69% among monitored species.
This rapid extinction rate is significantly higher than that of other animals and is particularly severe in agricultural areas inundated with harmful chemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers. Each of these species contributes to ecological balance, whether it is through pollination, soil aeration, or pest control.
