Brown Materials (Carbon-Rich)
In contrast, brown materials are dry and provide structure to the compost, but they decompose more slowly. Examples include:
Stale bread, tortilla shells, and cereal
Nutshells (excluding walnut shells)
Paper products like egg cartons, shredded paper, and cardboard boxes (remove plastic windows)
It’s vital to break down larger pieces of brown materials to hasten the decomposition process.
