Misleading Labels and Language: Companies often utilize terms like “green” or “eco-friendly” without substantial regulatory backing. These claims can be vague and misleading, giving consumers a false sense of sustainability.
Hidden Trade-offs: Advertisements may highlight one positive aspect, such as recycled packaging, while ignoring greater environmental harm caused in other areas.
False Labels and Imagery: Brands might use attractive images or phrases that suggest endorsement or certification that doesn’t exist. Amazon, for example, developed its own “Climate Pledge Friendly” label without legitimate third-party verification.
