The trio engaged in a riveting discussion centered around the gravitational forces acting upon the planets and the peculiarities of their elliptical orbits. Hooke was adamant in his assertion that the inverse square law could explain the observations they were making regarding these celestial movements. Even so, Wren challenged Hooke, arguing that neither he nor Halley could definitively prove their claims concerning gravitation and planetary motion.
