What exacerbates this crisis of integrity is the complicity—or at least the reluctance—of our political leaders to take action. Many expect our government representatives, particularly Republican politicians who are currently in charge, to step up and halt this alarming trend. While the Democratic party has expressed concern and drawn attention to the activities that seem to undermine our nation's stability, the immediate responsibility lies with those in power to put a check on monopolistic ambitions that threaten the very foundation of democracy.
