Writing the prehistory of music presents challenges, primarily due to the lack of audio records before the invention of the phonograph in 1877. Nonetheless, early forms of music can be traced back to the human voice as the oldest instrument, followed by tools made from rocks, like stalactites and gongs. The most significant discovery to date has been that of bone flutes, crafted from vulture bones, which date back approximately 40,000 years and were unearthed in caves in southern Germany.
