As they prepared for their Scandinavian shows, they adopted a temporary name: The New Yardbirds. Their first performance under this name took place on September 7, 1968, in Gladsaxe, Denmark. The immediate chemistry and musical synergy among the new members drove them to record their debut album within a mere 30 hours at Olympic Studios, even though tensions arose when Dreja issued a cease and desist regarding the use of the name for an album.
The Birth of Led Zeppelin
To circumvent name issues, Page consulted with his new manager Peter Grant, leading them to settle on Led Zeppelin, a name suggested jokingly due to the idea that the band would go down like a lead balloon. The debut performance under the new moniker took place at the University of Surrey on October 25, 1968.
