Mixing is the process of combining multiple audio tracks to create a balanced and cohesive sound. It involves manipulating individual elements within the song, such as vocals, guitar riffs, synth lines, and drum beats. The mixing phase allows producers to apply effects like equalization (EQ), compression, reverb, and delay to each track.
A significant part of mixing is achieving the right volume balance among all tracks to ensure that no single element overwhelms the others. For example, if the drums are too loud or the lead vocals are too quiet, the entire mix can suffer. Automation can also be used in mixing to enhance specific elements at certain points in a song.
