The first step in mastering is addressing any issues with sibilance, which can be highlighted in vocals and certain instruments. A mid-side de-esser is recommended to attenuate sibilance effectively. By using both shelf and bell filters, subtle attenuation of high frequencies can be applied when sibilance occurs—usually limited to a few decibels. The mid-side functionality allows for a more accurate reduction of sibilance while enhancing the stereo image’s quality.
