LUFS is a standard measurement of average loudness, contrasting with peak volume measurement. Peak volume reflects the maximum level of audio in a signal, measured at 0 dB. If the audio signal exceeds this threshold, it can lead to clipping, which degrades sound quality. In contrast, LUFS measures the average audio level over time, providing a more holistic view of how loud a track will sound when played back.
