Perfect and Imperfect Intervals
Intervals further any classification into perfect and imperfect. Perfect intervals include unisons, fourths, fifths, and octaves, while seconds, thirds, sixths, and sevenths are categorized as imperfect. When intervals are altered by a half step, they are labeled as augmented or diminished accordingly.
Accurate interval identification involves determining the letter name span and the corresponding half-step distances between the notes. For instance, determining the interval from C to F involves counting the letter names and half steps to conclude that it is a perfect fourth.
