Effects Application: On the reverb bus, apply a reverb of your choice tailored to the vocal quality you'd like to achieve. On the delay bus, you can add a delay effect that complements the reverb.
Introduce Compression: A crucial step is to introduce a compressor on both effect busses. By side-chaining the compressor to the vocal channel, you create an interaction where the garish reverb and delay effectively 'duck' when the vocal is active. This allows the vocals to emerge crisp and pronounced, while still preserving a lush backdrop.
Technical Execution
When setting this up:
Utilize a compressor with a ratio around 7:1 or 8:1.
Adjust the threshold so that you achieve around -5 to -8 dB of gain reduction when the vocal is present.
