Nigel Toon's Journey from Semiconductors to AI

Nigel Toon is an engineer who has worked extensively in the semiconductor industry, building microprocessors and related technologies. He was involved in the early days of the internet and mobile technologies, particularly on the base station side. Since 2012, he has been working in the field of AI, which he had a long-standing interest in even during his university days.

Toon has written a book, sits on the board of UK Research and Innovation, and has invested in several AI-focused companies. He was the CEO of Graphcore, a company that was recently acquired by SoftBank, giving them "very deep pockets" to invest in the next generation of AI hardware.
