The Biggest Losing Fight: Eddie Hearn's Lessons in Promotion

The Anthony Joshua Upset

One of the biggest losing fights for Eddie Hearn's business was the Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. fight at Madison Square Garden. Joshua was the number one fighter in the world, but his original opponent Jarrell Miller failed a drug test just three weeks before the fight. Hearn had to quickly find a replacement, and they went with the "fat guy" Ruiz, who ended up pulling off a huge upset and stopping Joshua.

Hearn was devastated by the loss, saying "I'm like [ __ ] and it's like now matam oh hearn's in trouble matram what are they going to do with our AJ blah blah blah blah blah." The team wanted to know what to do next, and Hearn said they needed to "bounce back" with a big fight.
