Quality Control Challenges with the 787 Dreamliner
Even as the 737 Max was re-entering service, Boeing started to have problems with their second most important aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner. Throughout 2019 and 2020, a number of airlines had noticed quality control issues with their 787s, leading the FAA to force Boeing to temporarily halt production to sort out the problems.
Labor Strikes and Financial Woes
In addition to the safety and quality control issues, Boeing has also faced labor strikes, with a union representing 33,000 Boeing machinists conducting a 7-week strike in 2024. This will cost the company $1.4 billion annually in wage increases, further straining its already struggling financial position.
