China is a vast country with rich natural resources and diverse terrain, but not all of its territory is equally hospitable for human habitation. The arid northern regions of China have long struggled with water scarcity, leading to devastating droughts and threatening the livelihoods of millions.
In the past, China has attempted to remedy this problem through drastic measures, such as the disastrous Great Leap Forward in the 1950s and 60s. However, these efforts often came at a catastrophic cost to human life. Undeterred, China has now embarked on a new, ambitious project to address its water woes: the South-North Water Transfer Project.
