Chinese battery maker CATL has introduced its second-generation sodium-ion batteries, which it claims have better safety and low-temperature performance compared to lithium-ion batteries. While CATL didn't reveal the energy density, it previously said it aims to exceed 200 Wh/kg. These batteries could replace 20-30% of lithium-ion batteries in small or short-range vehicles, and are expected to launch next year, though mass production won't happen until 2027.
