Corporal Luis Paez, who had served with the Sheriff's Office since 1988, and Deputy Sheriff Ralph "Butch" Waller, who joined the agency in 2008, were both killed in the crash. Corporal Paez had dedicated over two decades to the motorcycle unit and was nearing retirement. Deputy Waller had similarly committed over 18 years to the motor unit.
The third deputy, Ignacio Dan Diaz, remains in the hospital in stable but critical condition and has undergone additional surgery to address his injuries. His resilience and the community's prayers for his recovery provide a flicker of hope amidst the tragedy.
