Originally opened as a speakeasy in 1927 during Prohibition, the establishment transformed into Broadway's first steakhouse after the law was repealed in 1933. This long-standing culinary gem remains a beloved institution in New York, and I felt the weight of its history as I walked past the meat locker that has captivated onlookers since its installation in 1964.
