In the past, the pursuit of better batteries centered on enhancing core components—namely the anode, cathode, and electrolyte. Traditional designs utilized liquid electrolytes which, while effective, introduced risks such as thermal runaway and fire. Solid-state batteries emerged as a safer alternative, yet they faced challenges of their own—primarily the notorious dendrites formed by lithium metal anodes that can lead to dangerous short circuits. CATL's groundbreaking "condensed battery" technology could soon render these solid-state batteries obsolete.
