To gain further insight, Michael, a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, shared his observations from Ukraine. Currently in Odessa, a strategic southern port city, he reported severe conditions: there has been a complete lack of electricity, water, and heating for an entire day, all while frigid temperatures plunge well below freezing.
Michael noted that in recent days, Ukraine experienced an unusual period of relative calm, without the customary air raid sirens. This tranquility was abruptly shattered by the recent strikes, which appeared meticulously timed by Russian forces to strike deep at Ukraine’s vulnerabilities just as winter sets in.
