However, this grip on power remained tenuous. Recent geopolitical shifts, such as Iran's weakening due to confrontations with Israel and Russia’s entanglement in its invasion of Ukraine, led to a resurgence of rebel offensives that ultimately resulted in the collapse of Assad's forces in late 2024.
