In cricket, scoring runs occurs when batters switch places after hitting the ball. If they successfully reach the pitcher's area (the "wicket"), they score a run. Returning to home plate earns them a second run. Unlike baseball, there are no strikes, allowing batters to choose not to swing. Additionally, batters can get out in various ways, including being caught out, bowled out, or run out, which we’ll explain later.

Boundaries and Overs

The boundary defines the outer limit of the playing field. If the ball reaches or crosses this limit after being hit, the batting team scores runs—four runs for a ball that rolls or bounces to the boundary, and six runs for one that clears it directly.
