In preparation for planting, James carefully tended to each type of scrap. He planted potatoes at the end of the raised bed and pressed in the onion base with the root side down to encourage new growth. Ginger, celery, lettuce, beets, turmeric, and tomatoes all received individual plantings according to their specific growth requirements. A shade cloth was draped over the young plants to protect them from the harsh sun until they established roots.
