Garlic planting is straightforward, but many gardeners fail to realize the potential savings of regrowing their garlic instead of purchasing new seed. Consider a scenario: a bag of garlic containing just four or five bulbs sells for around $22.75. While it is beneficial to buy good varieties, such as Music garlic, growers can ultimately save money by utilizing bulbs they already have in the ground.
The Regrowth Process
In late fall of the previous year, the narrator planted garlic in a square foot garden fashion, placing four cloves per square foot and covering them with leaf mulch. This method allowed the garlic to slowly sprout and grow through the colder months. By spring, the garlic thrived, and the narrator was able to harvest large, beautiful bulbs come June.
