Motivation, as many have come to realize, is an unreliable force. Whether it’s the early morning chill keeping one under the covers or the allure of unhealthy food choices, motivation can waver when confronted with discomfort or temptation. Consequently, it can leave us unproductive, disheartened, or even in poor physical condition. In Navy SEAL training, individuals learn that “being motivated” is not a prerequisite for success—what matters most is the discipline to follow through with the required actions, regardless of how they feel.
