Part 2/7:
At number five, we find "Walking on Sunshine," a song that has become an anthem for happiness since its release in 1983. Written by Kimberly Rue, this upbeat track was originally part of Katrina and the Waves' debut album before being re-recorded in 1985, leading to its widespread acclaim.
Despite its uplifting vibe, the band members were surprisingly not fond of the song at first. Katrina Leskanich and her bandmates felt that it did not represent their musical style well and even labeled it as irritating at times. Rue himself expressed that up until the song's success, it seemed like just another track. However, its irresistible energy and catchy horn section transformed it into an international hit, marking a significant milestone for the band.
