One of the most notable events in Alzado's career occurred in 1978, when he challenged the legendary Muhammad Ali to an exhibition match. With the fight seen by many as a negotiating tactic to heighten his value in contract talks, Alzado took it very seriously, even mortgaging his house for $250,000 to guarantee Ali’s purse. After a grueling eight rounds, without an official winner declared, Ali praised Alzado, acknowledging his potential in boxing.
