Part 7/9:
In 2015, LA's mayor unveiled a sustainable city plan aimed at cleaning and enhancing local aquifers to increase water sourced locally by 50%. This initiative has spurred numerous projects throughout the city, including the first Green Alley project, which transformed traditional stormwater runoff with permeable paving systems, capable of storing significant volumes of excess rainwater.
Moreover, larger undertakings are underway, including the refurbishment of the Tujunga Spreading Grounds, which has doubled its capacity to hold billions of gallons of water each year. The ongoing restoration of the LA River, which was altered extensively between 1938 and 1960, will reintroduce natural landscapes, further enhancing the city's sponge infrastructure.
