After some encouragement, Wright committed to the idea of pursuing wrestling professionally. He reached out to Larry Sharpe at the Monster Factory, an early wrestling school. Without any modern conveniences like cell phones or easy means of sending images, all Wright could do was describe himself over the phone. After flying out to New Jersey on his own dime, his impressive stature instantly caught Sharpe’s attention.
However, the actual wrestling training didn’t quite unfold as one might expect. Instead of participating in rigorous training sessions, Wright found himself going out nightly with Sharpe, impressing everyone with his ability to charm women—a skill that would later play a pivotal role in his wrestling persona.
