One of the most captivating aspects of Bonham’s style is his unconventional sense of timing. While his beats may not be metronomically perfect, that very imperfection adds a relaxed, yet driving feel to his drumming. Tracks like “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and “No Quarter” illustrate his ability to manipulate time, pushing or pulling the rhythm to fit the mood of the song seamlessly.
His use of syncopation is another hallmark of his drumming. Bonham often shifted kick patterns and backbeats off traditional beats, a technique which can be heard in many of Led Zeppelin’s tracks. This creative rhythmic movement not only sets him apart but invites listeners to engage more dynamically with the music.
