While traditional reactors use uranium as a fuel source—predominantly uranium-238—fast reactors like Natrium can use the fast-moving neutrons produced during fission to convert the more abundant uranium-238 into plutonium-239, thus producing a sustainable fission reaction. This process of "breeding" allows the reactor to extract significantly more energy from fewer resources, ultimately reducing the amount of nuclear waste produced by the system.
