The name "Dipole Repeller" derives from the idea of a gravitational pull (towards the Shapely Supercluster) balanced by an opposing push (from the void itself). The void could be exerting this influence through two primary mechanisms:
- Gravitational Influence of Absence: Imagine being situated on the edge of a galaxy-filled region. The surrounding galaxies would pull you in, but if there's nothing behind you—a void—the balance shifts. The gravitational pull from the galaxies in front leads to a net push, nudging you away.
