An intriguing response appears in another Upanishad called the Brihadaranyaka, asserting that consciousness—often referred to as the eternal 'Self' or 'Atman'—is beyond the perceptible world. To paraphrase, it explains that while we can perceive sensations and thoughts, the very essence of who we are, the seer, is not within the grasp of our physical senses.

This notion challenges the contemporary scientific view that consciousness may somehow stem from the brain's activity. Instead, the Upanishads maintain that consciousness exists in a realm untouched by material reality—an unchanging aspect of our true nature, the Atman.
