By 2021, Harvard's investigation revealed manipulated data across at least four of Gino's publications between 2012 and 2020. The first study, titled "Signing at the Top Makes Ethics Salient," claimed that signing an honesty pledge enhances honesty in reports. However, data analysis uncovered artificial patterns that indicated manipulation. Similar issues emerged in other papers involving themes of authenticity, dishonesty, and relationship building in networking.
Each analysis revealed discrepancies, including inconsistencies in participant responses and suspiciously low p-values across studies. Harvard's findings led to Gino being placed on administrative leave.
