To understand the phenomenon of tiny apartments in Paris, one must look back to the 19th century and the influence of Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann. Undertaking the monumental task of restructuring Paris's cramped and disease-ridden streets, Haussmann implemented a radical transformation. He oversaw the demolition of medieval structures, paving the way for the beautiful boulevards and uniform buildings that define the city today. While his legacy includes stunning architecture, it inadvertently contributed to the existence of tiny living spaces.
